Des Harney: ... writes football's and London's finest and most exclusive occasional blog pages. Fulham FC is London's oldest professional football club, founded 1879. In 2022 the club returned yet again to the English Premier League under manager Marco Silva, after some years of yo-yoing between the top two tiers. By contrast, Enfield Town FC is one of London's newer teams in the top 6 flights of English football. 100% owned by its fans, it's a 'phoenix'; club, built from the ashes of Enfield FC in 2001, after that club's chairman sold their ground lease in a shady deal with shady landowner, Enfield Council. A moment of brief, non-league football infamy! ETFC were promoted to tier 7 of English Football's pyramid, in the 2011-12 season - my first year of going along. And rose to Tier 6 at the end of the 2023-'24 season. I've been a Fulham fan for almost 50 years, ever since the days of Moore, Best and Marsh; mostly following them in the lower divisions - and almost into extinction, in the late-1980's.I have also now followed my local non-league side, Enfield Town, for 11 years; since their move to a new home ground, near my house.
